Qatar Petroleum Development Co., Ltd.(Japan) also known as QPD which is a subsidiary of Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd., commenced oil production from A-Structure South Field offshore Qatar, Middle East.
QPD was established as the project company for the purpose of petroleum development and operation in Block 1 SE located offshore Qatar in September 1997. After the field development and installations in Al Karkara Field and A-Structure North Field, the first oil flowed in March 2006. Since then with subsequent developments in the field, the total crude oil production amounts to 11 million barrels (as of March end in 2011).

Occidental is the second-largest oil producer offshore Qatar, where we operate Idd El Shargi North Dome (ISND), located approximately 50 miles east of the Qatar peninsula, and Idd El Shargi South Dome (ISSD), about 15 miles south of ISND. For two decades, Occidental has worked in close cooperation with Qatar Petroleum to develop and operate offshore oilfields.
After assuming operation of ISND in 1994, Occidental increased production through extensive horizontal drilling, waterflooding and multilateral production. We continue to improve recovery rates and add new reserves through state-of-the-art reservoir characterization processes and technical development programs.

On May 2004, Gulf Drilling International Limited (GDI) was established as the first onshore and offshore oil and gas drilling company in Qatar. GDI was formed as a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (QP), Qatar’s national oil corporation, and Japan Drilling Co., Ltd. (JDC). In July 2007, QP acquired 25% shares of JDC, raising its ownership in GDI to 70%. In February of 2008, all shares of QP were transferred to Gulf International Services, q.s.c. (GIS) which became a public shareholding company in May 2008 and is listed on the Doha Securities Market.
In May 2014, GIS acquired all remaining JDC shares in GDI to make it a 100% Qatari owned company. GDI celebrated its 10th Anniversary during the same month.
GDI has seen rapid growth in the past twelve (14) years. GDI’s rig fleet has grown to twenty (20) assets and its workforce reached a total of around one thousand five hundred (1500) employees. Its current fleet consists of nine (9) offshore jack-up drilling rigs, eight (8) land rigs, two (2) lift boat and one (1) accommodation jack-up.
